When doctors interrogated him Peng revealed that he had developed a habit of sniffing his dirty socks after returning home from work, before finally throwing them into the laundry basket.

Health officials were of the view that fungus in the man’s dirty socks was sucked into his lungs when he inhaled deeply, while sniffing his used footwear. They were however quick to add that, this sort of infection is rare, and in this case may also be linked to a weak immune system, odditycentral.com reports.

Giving his medical explanation for Peng’s condition in a video, Dr. Mai Zhuanying at the Zhangzhou No. 909 Hospital said: “The infection could also be attributed to the patient’s lack of rest at home as he had looking after his child, leading to a weaker immune system.”

Fortunately for him, he reported to the hospital early enough and has received treatment. He is recuperating, reports say.
