Prostitutes in France face arrestfor dressing like prostitutes.
Tough anti-vice laws are to be adopted forbidding women to look "like a prostitute," reports by The Mirror.
The legislation is aimed at cleaning up red-light districts such as Pigalle in Paris, long a notorious area of the French capital, where streets are lined with hookers.
French sex workers' union, Strass, said the law was a "huge step backwards."
"It is making criminals of women for how they dress, and victimizing prostitutes for doing their job and aggravating their working conditions," said spokeswoman, Chloe Navarro.
French politicians will vote on the law next week.
There are some 20,000 prostitutes thought to be working in France. Pigalle was nicknamed "Pig Alley" by allied soldiers who liberated France at the end of World War II.
Prior to 1946, France had some 1,400 legal brothels, but these were subsequently banned.
