The officer, Constable Seidu Iddrisu had escorted some suspected armed robbers to the Accra Police Command prior to a scheduled press conference on Wednesday, the Police say.

Policeman Shoots And Kills Himself Mistakenly
According to reports from starrFM, the officer, Constable Salifu Iddrisu, might have mistakenly pulled the trigger to the gun which was off safety already to commit the act.

The Public Relations Officer at the Accra Police Command, ASP Effia Tenge said the Police officer went back to their vehicle to take his mobile phone when a gunshot was heard.
“He left his phone in the vehicle and was going back for it when we heard a gunshot. Immediately we rushed there and when we got there, we realized he had shot himself accidentally.
Immediately we sent him to the hospital, until the evening when the Accra Police Command paid him a visit only for us to be told he has passed on,” she explained.

She stated however that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is investigating the matter.
