In addition to revamped hardware for Chromecast and Chromecast Audio, Google has also announced a new version of the Chromecast app at its San Francisco event.

The update makes the app more than just a connection tool, adding content discovery portal, automatically detecting Chromecast and Chromecast Audio-compatible apps on your phone or tablet.

It will show personalized and popular content suggestion to users, and recommend new Chromecast apps from the Play Store.

The What’s On screen is the new default screen showing a sort of pick-and-mix of Chromecast compatible content on your right now.

Each app has its own sub-section, with a list of shows and live streaming events. Tapping on any of the shows will take you to the relevant app with that piece of content open.

In addition to all of that, the Chromecast app now includes a search bar, which searches for individual pieces of content across all your apps.

It also shows services for apps that you don’t have installed with Play Store link. YouTube and other video results from the web are included in the general search results.

The app update will be coming “in the next few weeks” on both Android and iOS.
