These are the Ghanaian women who can become President

Ghana is yet to have a woman ascend the Presidency but there is a growing of women gunning for the top office of the land

Ghana has never had a female President or even Vice and Business Insider SSA profiles some Ghanaian women gunning for the Presidency.

Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings

The wife of former President, Jerry John Rawlings was the first lady of Ghana from 1981 to 2001. In 2016, she became the first female to run for President in Ghana after she formed the National Democratic Party in 2012. She is perhaps in a comfortable lead in the race for a female president.

Samira Bawumia

Samira Bawumia’s exploits and contribution to the NPP’s 2016 campaign has given her a good political reputation. The outspoken and intelligent wife of Ghana’s current Vice President wields a powerful weapon of beauty and brains and is considered by many as the closest Ghanaian females to the Flagstaff House.

Rebecca Akufo-Addo

The current first lady and wife of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has recently found her way into the hearts of many Ghanaians by leading a campaign and fundraising to put up a new Mother and Child Care Unit at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Her father, Judge Jacob Hackenburg Griffiths-Randolph was a Speaker of Parliament during the Third Republic of Ghana speaker.

Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei

Charlotte Osei is the current chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana and the first female to serve in that capacity. She was formerly the Chairman of the National Commission of Civic Education. She also holds Master of Business Leadership (MBL) from the University of South Africa, Pretoria and Master of Laws, (LLM), from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Her strong leadership skill gives her a place on this list.

Hannah Tetteh

The Ghanaian barrister and politician as served in the cabinet of Ghana as Minister for Trade and Industry from 2009 to 2013 and Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2013 to 2017. She was also the Member of Parliament for the Awutu-Senya West constituency from 2013 until she lost her seat during the 2016 elections. She was also the Chairperson of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers during the Chairmanship of H.E. John Mahama. She is no doubt a presidential material and one for the future.

Oye Lithur

The renowned Ghanaian human right activist, barrister and politician served as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection from 2013 to 2017 during the Mahama admiration. Her bravery in tackling issues of gender inequality and child abuse is one that we will need in dealing our economic and social problems such as corruption.

Zanetor Rawlings

Dr. Zanetor Rawlings is the Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korle Constituency and daughter of Ghana’s former President j.j. Rawlings. The young doctor is gradually piling up some political experience under he sleeve and it will not be surprising if she takes some giant steps towards the presidency in the future.

Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey

The current Minister of Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom. A membership of Ghana’s Cabinet is gradually giving her some shaping for the President. Who knows, we may soon be calling her “Her Excellency”.

Adjoa Sarfo

The Dome Kwabenya Constituency Member of Parliament is the daughter of Ghanaian inventer, Apostle Kwadwo Safo. She holds an LLM from George Washington University and is Ghana’s Minister of State in charge of Government Procurement. She was nominated for the Nobles Forum Award in 2012. The MP is full of potential in politics and looks likely to give a shot at the presidency.
