Formalise our actions – Goro boys petition DVLA
The Chief Executive Officer of the DVLA Mr Kwasi Agyemang Busia said he received a petition signed by 600 unofficial agents of the DVLA popularly referred to as ‘goro’ boys.

The Chief Executive Officer of the DVLA Mr Kwasi Agyemang Busia said he received a petition signed by 600 unofficial agents of the DVLA popularly referred to as ‘goro’ boys.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a new Board of the Authority.

The petition follows the Authority’s move to issue new, security-enhanced licenses for drivers.
“It is my goal; my passion, to make the Authority more efficient. I have received letters from the Goro Community with 600 signatures for us to convert them from their illegal activities into official agents of the authority."
“This is an encouraging sign that may help put a dent in their activities. With the new license, we will avoid duplications. Hitherto, everything we do, they have been duplicating,” he added.
The CEO said that he was happy the goro boys have seen it wise to petition him. He added that their request will be considered.

“That letter is comforting because they are already beginning to feel some of the heat and if they are willing to convert to do legitimate work then that is good because employment is important. It’s just that we don’t want them to do that kind of employment which is illegal and criminal. And I think that is a good sign."
“The idea is to make sure that they have a fruitful and legal means of making a living. So when we say abolish the menace of goro boys, if we can reach a happy place where we can legitimise their activities to help the authority, why not?”

The DVLA has put the issuance of the new license on hold to allow them add enhanced security features that will make it difficult to duplicate. It is also to curb the goro boys menace.
He added that “we will not meet the July 18 projected date. It has to go through cabinet for instance because there is a rate change involved and the finance ministry would have to step in as well but we hope it will be as soon as possible.”

The Chairman of the newly inducted 12-member Board for the DVLA, Mr Frank Davies, promised to engage with the goro boys to ensure they are not left jobless.
