Legon Professor wants undergraduate long essays to be defended

The defence of the essay he believes would help reduce plagiarism that is rife across universities in the country.

This suggestion comes at the back of reports of students contracting the service of third parties in assisting them in writing their essays.

Ideally, final year students are required to invest their efforts into researching a selected topic and correlating consistent ideas to make a convincing argument through their long essays.

Professor Yenney told Radio Univers on its campus exclusive program that if the initiative is actualized, it will motivate students to commit to their research.

He also urged that universities emphasize the plagiarism test software to prevent students from copying the works of others.

“If there are some references you didn’t develop, and they are in there, at the defense you will be found wanting,” he said.

He also lamented on the reducing number of students that partake in the writing of long essays saying that most students are restrained by the inadequate time given them.
