We can't sabotage teachers - GES assures

“The teachers are our employees…we can’t sabotage them,” Rev. Bettey said.

The Public Relations Officer of the GES, Reverend Jonathan Bettey said: “We have paid their salaries and arrears according to the validation that was going on so they should be cool, they should wait for the payment.”

The GES in a statement annocuned that it was going to conduct a field verification of documents that have been validated before payments will be effected for teachers.

This, according to GES was to help prevent salary payment to ghost names on the government payroll.

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) in reaction said the intended field verification “is a blatant violation of the agreement we had reached at our previous meeting.”

Speaking on Radio Ghana, Rev. Bettey commended the teacher unions for joining its technical committee to help get the salaries issues resolved.

He however, indicated that “the teachers are our employees…we can’t sabotage them.”

He said he was certain that the Controller and Accountant General’s Department has received a cheque for the payment of all salaries so “they should be very cool and patient.”

“We have all been notified that by the end of June, all these people will be paid,” he added.
