Husband of TV host to seek property settlement

In an interview with Pulse.com.gh, the lawyer for Abrokwa, Maurice Ampaw said his client intends to file for a divorce on the grounds of adultery.

He said that since the court has not given its final verdict on the dissolution of their marriage, his client and Afia are still recognized as lawfully wedded couples.

“We will be seeking for divorce, and when we seek for divorce, whatever properties between the parties will be shared by the courts. And that’s our intention,” he said.

The lawyer explained that “Abrokwa has a property in South Africa. Afia has properties in Ghana. There may be cash; there may be properties that they have jointly acquired. All those are matrimonial properties.”

He continued that: “If for example they divorce and there is only one house and the man can prove to the court that he contributed directly or indirectly in the acquisition, the court has to share.”

The controversial lawyer said that even there is a criminal aspect of the case, he and his client “are looking at the civil aspect of going to court to seek dissolution of marriage and ask for property settlement.”

Abrokwa is being tried over a video he purportedly recorded of Afia in a headscarf, trying to cover her nakedness with a white towel.

In the video, the ‘husband’ Abrokwa threatened to pour something in a bottle he claims is acid on her face. Afia is heard crying and begging Abrokwah not to pour the acid on her.
