Gov’t worker steals GH¢115,000 to construct his house
According to the Auditor-General's report, the government employee forged Bank of Ghana’s pay-in slips in order to steal state funds.

This was revealed by the Auditor-General's report for 2015 which is currently before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament.
According to the report, Addison who forged Bank of Ghana’s pay-in slips admitted to stealing the said amount.

He said he used the money to build a garage, one living room and one store room. He added that he used some of the money to construct a wall around his property in the Western Region and also to buy personal items.
He was charged by the Police but is still walking free.
This is not the first time a government employee has squandered public funds for their personal gains. The Auditor-General’s report always mentions such issues.
In April 2017 an auctioneer, Alex Smart, admitted to PAC that he earned a commission for no work done after the auctioning of 24 state vehicles in a manner the Auditor-General describes as irregular.

However, these persons have not been sanctioned. For 25 years, persons indicted by the Auditor-General have generally escaped prosecution.
PAC only questions the offenders and after the two main political parties point fingers at each other nothing is done to punish the offending officials.
But a Supreme Court order last June has charged the Auditor-General to surcharge indicted persons.
In a related development, the Auditor-General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo has disclosed that 11 persons have been asked to pay back monies lost to the state or face a suit.
