NDC’s defeat was like rapture – Allotey Jacobs

The Central Regional Chairman of National Democratic Congress, Allotey Jacobs said the saddest part for him was when he realised the NDC had lost 16 parliamentary seats in his region.

Speaking on Accra-based Adom FM, he Allotey Jacobs said the defeat was just like rapture.

He said the saddest part for him was when he realised the NDC had lost 16 parliamentary seats in the Central Region where he worked tirelessly to ensure they won.

“2016 election defeat was a sad day for the NDC; it was very difficult for me when at 2: am I realized I had lost 16 seats in the Central region. It was very pathetic.”

“NPP had a similar experience in 2000 as it is part of politics but the magnitude of the defeat in 2016 was massive” he added.

He, however, said they are re-organizing the grassroots to regain power in 2020.

“Had I know is always at last; we have learnt our lessons and we are working hard to win election 2020.”

He said no one in the NDC anticipated defeat given the numerous infrastructural projects undertaken by the Mahama-led administration.

Exactly a year today, December 7, 2017, Ghanaians went to the poll to elect a president and their Members of Parliament.

Three-time lucky New Patriotic Party (NPP) leader, Nana Akufo-Addo polled 5,716,026 to beat incumbent President John Mahama who had 4,713, 277 Electoral Commission Chairperson, Charlotte Osei announced Friday (December 9, 2016) evening.

According to official results from EC, Nana Akufo-Addo polled 53.85% of the total votes cast as against 44.40 by then-incumbent President Mahama.
