Rio Olympic Games Simone Biles David Rudisha

The American gymnast will look to add balance beam gold to her collection, while defending champions David Rudisha and Renaud Lavillenie are also in action in the Olympic Stadium.

Rudisha will look to defend his 800 metres title after Lavillenie competes in the pole vault, while Allyson Felix goes in search of 400m glory after setting the fastest time in the semi-finals.

CAN SIMONE KEEP HER BALANCE?

Many had predicted Simone Biles would dominate the women's gymnastics in Brazil and the 19-year-old has not disappointed.

Having led the United States to team gold, Biles then added individual titles the all-around and vault competitions, and she can continue a stunning games on the beam.

Biles won world championship gold in this event last year and unsurprisingly she goes into today's final as hot favourite to claim a fourth gold.

RUDISHA EYES 800M REPEAT

Four years ago David Rudisha reached new heights as he led from start to finish to win 800m gold in London, becoming the first runner to break the one minute 41 seconds barrier for the event in the process.

The Kenyan has since added the world title to his collection but was denied Commonwealth glory in 2014 by Botswana's Nijel Amos.

He was back to his majestic best in the semi-finals in Rio with a dominant run, the 27-year-old hitting the front just before the bell and pulled clear.

Expect Clayton Murphy, Taoufik Makhloufi and Alfred Kipketer to push Rudisha all the way, though, in what should be a thrilling finale.

CAVENDISH EYES REDEMPTION IN THE OMNIUM

Great Britain's Mark Cavendish has already had a great 2016 as he moved into second in the all-time record of Tour de France stage wins and also wore the yellow jersey for the first time.

The 31-year-old marked his track return with a gold medal in the madison with Bradley Wiggins at the World Championships in London.

But Rio has always been Cavendish's top priority after leaving his last Olympics in 2008 with disappointment in the madison.

Cavendish is on course for a medal in the velodrome as he goes into the final three events of the omnium well placed in third place behind Thomas Boudat and Elia Viviani.

LAVILLENIE LOOKING TO FLY HIGH

The Olympic stadium has five finals on Monday with the men's 800m and women's 400m the star attractions, but the men's pole vault promises to be just as exciting.

Defending champion Renaud Lavillenie will be looking to put his disappointing European Championship performance behind him - when he failed to record a clearance - and after a shaky start in qualifying he was able to seal his place in the final.

Pawel Wojciechowski and Raphael Holzdeppe - both former world champions - will not be in the final after sensationally missing out, but reigning world champion Shawn Barber is ready to go head-to-head with Lavillenie.
