Koukash wants life bans for Salford troublemakers

Marwan Koukash will ban fans involved in Monday's crowd trouble after Salford Red Devils' Super League match versus Huddersfield Giants for life.

Salford Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash has vowed to hand life bans to the supporters who caused the trouble that marred the end of their Super League clash with Huddersfield Giants.

After Salford had completed a 26-24 victory at John Smith's Stadium on Monday photographs emerged of crowd trouble in which players fought with fans.

Players including Junior S'au and Justin Carney jumped into the crowd, with media reports suggesting they were responding to cries for help from family members who were being squashed by their own fans.

After the club condemned the scenes on Twitter, Koukash vowed to identify those at fault and ban them from attending future matches.

Speaking on talkSPORT he said: "We have asked for the CCTV from Huddersfield. The minority who caused the trouble, who I called thugs, will not be associated with our club or the sport. We will make sure they never attend a rugby league game again.

"You go towards your fans at the end of the game to acknowledge their support and when you see your family are there and need your help, regardless of whether you're a policeman or a player, the human instinct is to jump in and help them out.

"That's the only reason the two players, Junior and Justin, jumped in, to help their kids and their wives. One of the kids ended up going to hospital, the daughter of our strength and conditioning coach. It's not ideal for them to jump in but what else do you expect?"

Meanwhile, Giants issued a statement confirming they will assist with any investigation by the Rugby Football League.

Their statement read: "At 16.38 a flare was ignited by a Salford fan in the away stand. Neither the fan who ignited it, nor the fan who subsequently threw it towards the playing surface, were identified. The flare was removed from the playing surface by stewards.

"Two Salford fans were then ejected from the playing surface and pitchside at the end of the game for pitch encroachment. Following this an incident occurred in the away stand.

"We are expecting the RFL to request an investigation into the incident involving some of the Salford players and Salford fans post match and we will co-operate fully with this."
