NFL Carolina Panthers monitoring Charlotte unrest

Michael Jordan offered his condolences to families affected by Charlotte violence, while the Carolina Panthers monitored the situation.

The NFL have confirmed that Sunday's fixture between the Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings will go ahead "as scheduled" despite days of violent protests in Charlotte.

Days of unrest in the North Carolina city have been sparked by the death of Keith Lamond Scott, a 43-year-old black man shot dead by police on Tuesday.

The Panthers' Bank of America Stadium is just a few blocks from the site of Wednesday night's clashes between protesters and police that resulted in 44 arrests and 10 reported injuries.

"We are in contact with government officials, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the NFL," the Panthers said in a statement on Thursday.

"We are continuing to monitor events as we prepare for Sunday's home game."

Meanwhile, NBA legend and Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan has called for calm to be restored in the city.

"First, I want to express my condolences to the Scott family for their loss," Jordan said. "I also wish for a full recovery for those who have been injured.

"In light of the tragic events of the past three days, it is more important than ever that we restore calm and come together, as a community, in peaceful demonstration and conversation, and in constructive, non-violent ways."The NASCAR Hall of Fame was among the sites damaged on Wednesday night as a prayer vigil turned violent.

Charlotte mayor Jennifer Roberts told Good Morning America on Thursday that "the city is talking about a curfew" to bring an end to the troubles.
