Conor McGregor will relaunch his bid to become the first man to simultaneously rule two divisions after a bout with lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez was confirmed for UFC 205.
The event will see professional mixed martial arts land in New York City for the first time since a legal battle was won earlier this year, and UFC president Dana White has made good on a vow to return to the Big Apple in style with an eye-catching headline fight set for November 12.
Featherweight champion McGregor previously chased the lightweight belt when it was held by Rafael dos Anjos, but the Brazilian suffered a broken foot to lead 'The Notorious' to a welterweight bout with Nate Diaz, which resulted in the Irishman's first loss in UFC.
McGregor avenged that defeat to Diaz with a decision victory at UFC 202, both men calling for a third meeting shortly afterwards.

However, adding more gold to his collection is next on McGregor's agenda, providing a blockbuster first defence for Alvarez, who beat Dos Anjos with a first-round TKO in July.
McGregor's detractors have pointed to his lack of title defences at 145 pounds since unifying the division with his record-breaking 13-second knockout of Jose Aldo, but a UFC statement confirmed McGregor will keep his featherweight belt heading into UFC 205, despite his involvement at Madison Square Garden taking him beyond a year without putting it on the line.
