Manchester United winger sentenced to 16 months imprisonment

Alexis Sanchez has been handed 16 months jail term for evading tax during the period he played for Barcelona in Spain.

The Spanish Tax Authority found Sanchez guilty of evading tax to the tune of €1 million between 2012 and 2013 during which he was plying his trade in Spain for FC Barcelona.

The 29-year-old forward would however, not serve the prison sentence after agreeing to pay the €1 million owed the Spanish government for evading tax.

He is the latest footballer to be found guilty of tax evasion by Spanish government, following the likes of Lionel Messi, Alonso, Iniesta, Casillas, etc.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho  are currently facing similar fate and they yet to be cleared.

In accordance with Spanish custom, first-time offenders whose prison terms do not exceed two years will not serve time in jail and as Sanchez is no longer earning his living in Spain, his brush with their tax authorities now appears to be over.
