But media reports emerged that the FA has asked him to stay on until further notice. But Abra-Appiah says he won't be in office when the new season starts.

"Certainly I will be leaving (my position as Premier League Board Chairman). I have discussed that with the FA president (Kwesi Nyantakyi)," Welbeck Abra-Appiah told Accra-based radio station, Citi FM.

"[The FA has tried to get me rescind my decision] not because they cannot find a credible replacement, but the issue here is that the FA in terms of Executive Committee and Emergency Committee are yet to sit on the membership of various committees and the various boards on the FA platforms.

"And for that reason I am still at post because the various committees and boards cannot be left in vacuum. So those of us who are occupying those positions will stay on until such a time they're able to come out with various membership of the boards and the various committees." He said.

Welbeck Abra-Appiah added that he has no problem with the FA. They've accorded him respect, thus, he won't leave his post unceremoniously.

"I don't have a problem with the FA, neither should I leave unceremoniously neither would I also say that whether they like or not, I am leaving. No! It is a human institution we are working in and for that reason I think I must give them the respect they've given me and wait [for a successor to be found.]"

Welbeck Abra-Appiah is the longest-serving chairman of the Premier League Board (PLB). He became Chairman of the premier league clubs in 2005 after serving as vice-chairman from 1998-2004.
