An NPP parliamentary candidate has been sued for allegedly stealing bags of fertilizers

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has dragged the NPP parliamentary candidate for Hemang Lower Denkyira constituency, Bright Wereko Brobbey and 17 others to court for allegedly stealing fertilizers belonging to the board.

The parliamentary candidate, according to COCOBOD, stole the fertilizers and shared it to NPP delegates prior to the party’s primaries in June.

The bags of fertilizers valued at GHC201, 287.60, were allegedly stolen from the Twifo Praso Office of COCOBOD, and distributed to some farmers believed to be NPP polling station executives, to gain political favour for Bright Wereko-Brobbey during the party’s parliamentary primaries held last month in the constituency.

Among the 17, are two district cocoa officers, Felix Kwame Quainoo and Ernest Odei-Larbie, Kweku Nsowah, farmer, who allegedly conspired and stole the fertilizers for onward distribution.

The alleged recipients are, Anthony Carr, Abena Towah, Abena Hawa, Abubakar Farouk, Obed Arhin, Efia Ayimadua, Lydia Cobbina, Mary Donkoh, Patience Ahimadu, Monica Boadu, Stephen Oppong and Isaac Antwi junior all farmers and Anane Otoo, electrician and Salormey Larbi, unemployed.

The district cocoa officer in the area was mentioned in the writ to have connived with Wereko Brobbey to distribute the cocoa to the delegates to induce them to vote for him.

Bright Wereko Brobbey has been charged with aiding and abetment of crime and was granted bail in the sum of GHC50,000 with two sureties. Others were charged with stealing and dishonestly and and were each granted a 50,000-Ghana-Cedi bail, with two sureties.

According to the COCOBOD, the stolen fertilisers were over 1000 bags and were distributed to wrong beneficiaries some of whom do not own farms.
