49 Nigerians Repatriated

The forty nine illegal Nigerian immigrants who were picked up in the Volta region on Friday have been repatriated, Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Immigration Service, Francis Palmdeti has said.

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has also revealed that it has begun sensitising the people living along the Togo/Ghana border about the dangers involved in aiding illegal immigrants into the country.

The Public Affairs Director of the Ghana Immigration Service, Francis Palmdeti said measures are being put in place to prevent a recurrence.“We have succeeded in having them removed from the country,” Palmdeti said, adding “we have also stepped up with our patrol activities”.

The 49 illegal Nigerian immigrants were arrested at the weekend for using unapproved routes into Ghana.

The immigrants who claimed to be fulanis from the Oyo state in Nigeria were travelling to Chinderi, the capital of Krachie-Nchurumu but were deserted with their belongings at the ferry crossing area in Dambai by the driver who drove them from Nigeria.

According to their leader, who holds a Nigerian Voter I.D with the name Atiku Alhaji Adams, they were scheduled to arrive at Chinderi where they will engage in cattle herding.
