According to him, the NDC as a party will uphold the peace of the country.
He said Ghana's revered democracy appears threatened by growing inter- and intra-political intolerance adding that the emergence of sponsored and trained armed groups belonging to the two main political parties, the NPP and the NDC is a threat to the country.
He said vigilantism often relates to unofficial and often illegal but organized way of preventing crime.

Speaking at the Perez Chapel International on Sunday, 3 March 2019, Mahama said as the leader of the NDC party, it will not be because of NDC that Ghana will burn.
"And that is why we have accepted the president's invitation to discuss the issue of vigilantism, and we actually have written explaining some of the issues we think we need to look at, including some of the things bishop said; that it will be simplistic to have just the two parties come and sit together and say we are discussing and disbanding vigilantism.

"And that's why we are saying there must be an interlocutor, a neutral interlocutor. And the neutral interlocutor that we have in this country in terms of our peace architecture is the National Peace Council. We must have had disagreements with the Chairman, and it was in the head of post-Ayawaso West Wuogon," he said.
