The English league have had a couple of managers who came at the time their clubs were in serious trouble and they turned around their fortunes.

  1. Roberto Di Matteo

The Italian is arguably the most successful caretaker manager in Premier League history as he took over the helms for Andreas Villas-Boas in March 2012.

Chelsea became champions of Europe for the first time under Di Matteo, getting past Napoli, Benfica, Barcelona and Bayern Munich to clinch the trophy.

He also finished the Premier League season in 6th before he was sacked the same year in November but left unforgettable memories at Stamford Bridge.

2.Guus Hiddink

On two occasions the Dutch manager did a pretty good job with Chelsea when he rescued Felipe Scolari in February 2009 and Mourinho in December 2015.

Hiddink had a dramatic season in 2009 where he won 11 out of 13 matches and he took the Blues into the Champions League semi-finals but were controversially knocked out by Barcelona. He won the FA Cup for the Blues that season.

3.Craig Shakespeare

Claudio Ranieri could not replicate the fairy tale story that won the Premier League for the Foxes in the preceding season as the Italian gaffer was sacked when his team was battling relegation in 17th position.

Craig Shakespeare took over and began the revival for the King Power outfit as they finished strongly in 12th including a Champions League quarter finals berth.
