Four political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and the United Freedom Party (UFP) are criss-crossing the length and breadth of the Amenfi West constituency, all in a bid to win the seat.
The four candidates are Mr Abraham Kwadwo Buadee, a 41-year-old accountant for the PPP, Mr Paul Derkyi, 43 a lawyer, for the NPP, Mr Elvis Adjei, a 30-year-old Loan Administrator for the UFP, Mr Eric Afful, 41-year-old Economist representing the NDC.

Agnes Samfo won the seat on the ticket of the NPP in a bye-election and held the seat for a year and it returned to the NDC in the 2004 general elections and won it back in 2008 and 2012 respectively.
The bye-election is to be held in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the Constitution, following the sudden death of the Member of Parliament (MP), John Gyetuah, on October 13, 2015.
At a mammoth rally held at Boadum Park in Asankragwa, on Sunday, December 13, 2015 to vote massively for the NPP candidate.
President John Dramani Mahama who also addressed a rally at Asankragua, said the achievement of the government is evident enough for the people to see, hence the need for them to vote for the party’s candidate.
