Journalist jailed for reporting on First Lady's used underwear racket

Zimbabwe’s powerful and controversial First Lady

Zimbabwean journalists are no strangers to censorship and harassment at the hands of the government

Kenneth Nyangani , a reporter for the independently run Zimbabwean newspaper NewsDay  has been arrested over the publication of a story alleging that First Lady Grace Mugabe had made a donation of underwear to party faithful.

According to his attorney, Kenneth was likely to be charged with criminal defamation for “allegedly writing and publishing a story over the donation of some used undergarments.”

However,Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZHRL), confirmed on October 2 that he had been charged with criminal nuisance.

The journalist was arrested on October 1 and has since been in police custody.
