The Lands and Forestry Minister-designate, John Peter Amewu has assured that landowners seeking titles to their lands will soon be able to go through the registration processes smoothly and receive their titles within 30 days.

“Land title registration takes about two years, sometimes. In accordance with our manifesto, the president said categorically that we should be able to reduce the long duration in land title registration,” he said.

Mr Amewu said he would “make sure that the period for land title registration is brought down to a minimum; a minimum of 30 days. That’s what I’m going to work towards.”

On the issue of state lands, Mr Amewu said if he is approved, he would conduct an inventory of government lands to establish their locations and which ones have been paid compensation or not.

“Where compensation of lands have not been paid, I will try to see where we can trade land for infrastructure development and make sure that the resources granted or generated from that can be used to pay compensation to land owners,” he said.

Touching on illegal mining, John Peter Amewu assured that he will deal firmly with illegal miners without party considerations.

“If the house gives me the nod, I’m not going to take it lightly at all, if you refuse to do the right thing, the law will get you, and I am going to apply the law to address ‘galamsey’ issue in the country,” he said.

“I’m not a minister for party executives, I am a minister for the republic of Ghana and for the purpose of intergenerational equity, we must leave something down for our generation to come and see… Irrespective of your party colour, irrespective of who owns the land, irrespective of your family background, the law will be applied,” he added.
