This came as a surprise to some members of the Union as well as members of the general public, as UNICOF in an earlier letter dated July 15, 2016, addressed to National Labour Commission (NLC), conceded that it had erred in suspending John Esiape.
His dismissal was contained in a letter which has surfaced in the media, in which it is stated that he is being dismissed on grounds of “Gross misconduct arising from dishonesty, acting against the interest of the Union”.
The letter revealed that the decision was taken by the National Executive Committee in a meeting held on 16 July, 2016, where majority voted for the removal of John Esiape as General Secretary.
Per the current development, the former UNICOF General Secretary is required to return all property in his possession, including his car, belonging to the union by the 8 of August 2016.
