An eye-opening amount of guys are watching Netflix while they use the bathroom.
Apparently, people are no longer satisfied with simply watching their favorite shows from the comfort of their own homes. Instead, the study—which surveyed more than 37,000 people—found that 67 percent of viewers download their favorite shows to take them everywhere they go.
As Entertainment Weekly pointed out, the report showed a full 44 percent of viewers are watching downloaded Netflix content while onboard a plane. Another 20 percent are watching on a bus, and an additional 10 percent of bus or train riders even admitted to missing their stops because they are so enthralled in their entertainment.
But perhaps the most eye-opening finding is that 12 percent of viewers said they watch their favorite shows while using a public restroom.
“Netflixing in public has become a social norm with 60 percent of Americans watching more movies and shows in public this year than last,” Eddy Wu, director of production innovation at Netflix, told Entertainment Weekly. “The introduction of the Netflix download feature has given users the freedom to watch their favorite movies and shows wherever they want, like during their commute or waiting in line, and for some… that means at work or even in a public restroom.”
Look, nobody is judging what you do in your own time, especially what you’re doing in the bathroom, but the thought of sitting back and relaxing in the loo got us thinking: How long does it actually take for you to poop if you can watch an entire episode of a television show while doing it?
According to a Men's Health Twitter poll, 38 percent of respondents said they take 5 minutes or less to go number two. Another 38 percent said they take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes to go, while 17 percent said they take about 10 to 20 minutes.
The outliers of our poll could indeed finish off an entire episode of a TV show while going to the bathroom. Seven percent of our 2,562 respondents said they can take 20 minutes or more to finish going to the bathroom.
At first glance, you may think 20 minutes is an excessively long time to go to the bathroom. But as it turns out there’s really no “normal” when it comes to bathroom habits.
As gastroenterologist Richard J. Saad, M.D., M.S., an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Michigan, told Men’s Health, regularity is really in the eye of the beholder. As he explained, the only time you really need to worry is when your bathroom habits switch rapidly and something feels off.
And if you’re just all about taking a leisurely poop that’s OK, but if you’re taking forever in the bathroom and straining to get it out it may be time to try a new position. In fact, straining too hard while going to the bathroom can cause a plethora of issues including hemorrhoids or even a stroke.
Instead of dying on the throne, try purchasing a Squatty Potty. This little step stool will help put your legs and lower body in the perfect position to let it all go without the strain. That way you can get back to the comfort of your couch faster to finish all of Narcos before season 4 begins.
