So instead of passengers entering the station to board their vehicles, they would rather board from the roadside.

Achimota Commercial Drivers are threatening to abandon their State-of-the-art GHC4.5 million bus terminal.

According to the drivers, business at the terminal is being hampered by other drivers who pick passengers outside the terminal to the same destinations.

These drivers drop off passengers on the road despite several efforts to compel them to use the bus terminal.

The Achimota bus terminal was commissioned in 2009 to ease congestion on the Accra – Nsawam road which is often heavy between the Apenkwa interchange and Achimota.

The terminal, one of its kind, has a police station, a clinic and a cafeteria and accommodates about 800 vehicles.

The irate drivers told Parliament’s Select Committee on Roads and Transport that about 50 percent of the cars they have sighted illegally using the roads belong to some police officials – an allegation they have been asked to substantiate.

“If we do our best and the situation does not improve, we will be forced to join them,” one of the drivers representing the drivers from the terminal said.

But the members of the Committee encouraged the drivers to put their grievances, evidence on paper.

A member of the committee, Samuel Aye-Paye, told them to get the numbers of the vehicles sighted so far and make them available to the Committee. "The MTTU would also be informed", he added
