Koala to reward brave taxi driver with a new car

Management of Koala Supermarket has pledged to buy a brand new car to the taxi driver who knocked down two suspected armed robbers on a motorbike.

The taxi was damaged as the driver rammed into the motorbike of the suspects Abaliku Sannie, 35, and Oko Quaicoo, 30.

A supervisor of the shop Gilbert Osabutey is also behind bars for allegedly conniving with the duo to rob the shop.

Administrative manager Belinda Bekoe speaking on Accra-based Joy FM said the taxi driver will get a brand new taxi from the company.

She said their gesture is to encourage the driver and others to selflessly come to the aid of others in critical times as their staff.

The taxi driver also noted that, "Everybody is praising me but it is not me, it is by God. The heart needed to do this was given by God."

Meanwhile, a statement by Koala Supermarket’s marketing and Public Relations Officer Christal Beeko, said the supermarket was “deeply saddened”  by the robbery incident which left its long term staff member Lydia Horsu wounded in hospital.

The statement said Horsu is an assistant administrator and was assigned to run routine checks on the Osu and Cantonment shops.

It said administrators are required to visit the shops regularly to interact with managers and staff and to collect receipts for reconciliation and “in no way involves collection of money and its deposit to the bank.”

The statement also added that "Management is grateful to the heroic taxi driver, who risked his life to help Lydia and to stop her assailants from inflicting further harm. He will be rewarded for his heroism."

Management is grateful to the Ghana Police Service for the swift response and for their investigations aimed at bringing these perpetrators to book."
