Al Ahly tops African football clubs on social media as Hearts of Oak lead in Ghana

African football clubs are starting to pay attention to the benfits of having digital footprints

Accra Hearts of Oak has emerged as the most popular Ghanaian club on social media after Results Sports released its end of year list for African football clubs on digital platforms.

The survey took into account the full cumulative number of followers clubs had on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Google +,Instagram and Periscope.

The Ghanaian club has 138,488 followers across its social media platforms. It is however a thousands behind Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas who have 21,869 .

Egyptian club and record African club champions Al Ahly is the most followed African club on social media with 18,123,035 while South African club, Kaiser Chiefs also topped the Southern part of Africa with 4,322,707 followers.

Results Sports earlier in the year released a list of the most popular African footballers on social media, a survey that also had Egyptian supertstar Mohammed Salah coming out on top.
