Fall armyworm destroy 1,000 hectares of maize

The Central Regional Operations Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has revealed that one thousand hectares of the 6,000 hectares maize farm in the region had been completely destroyed by the fall armyworm.

Richard Baffour Asare was speaking at a public forum organised by the Gomoa East District Office of NADMO at Gomoa Buduburam in the Central Region.

He explained that but for the timely intervention by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) and Regional Coordinating Council would not have been able to salvage the 5,000 hectares of maize farm.

Asare did not disclose which districts and communities were affected by the invasion of the fall armyworm.

He, however, called on farmers to report such incidents early to the Agric extension officers and NADMO for them to take quick action.

He gave the assurance that workers of NADMO in the districts and regional offices were ready to deal with any situation that may arise.

He urged the farmers to and spray their farms regularly, in accordance with expert advice, to prevent attacks by the fall armyworm.
