UK-based Ghanaian music group Reggie and Bollie have launched an attack on the Telegraph following reports by the website suggesting the Asantehene’s involvement in a money laundering scandal.
The overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was fingered in the scandal after it emerged that he had transferred a whopping £350,000 into his personal account in the UK.
The banker who helped the King make the transfer – Mark Arthur – has since been sacked by the Ghana International Bank.
A lot has been made about the development, with sections of Ghanaians questioning why the Asantehene will transfer such a huge amount, while others also see nothing wrong with it.
UK-based Ghanaian musical duo, Reggie and Bollie have also added their voice, choosing to take on the Telegraph for their publication.
According to them, £350,000 is nothing to the Asantehene, adding that the UK-based media is only interested in putting the King’s name into disrepute.
In an Instagram post, the duo wrote: “What is £350,000 to our Ashanti King Otumfuo Osei Tutu? Come On @telegraph our king owns thousands of acres of lands full of Gold and many other natural resources. Don’t bring his name to disrepute.”
