Haruna Iddrisu demands release of funds from Finance Ministry

This is to enable the Employment Ministry refund over GH₵129,089 borrowed from the Youth Employment Agency in March, 2015.

The Ministry of Employment has asked the Finance Ministry to reimburse to it monies spent on pre-financing activities at the ministry.

Earlier reports had indicated that the Minister had allegedly requested an amount of GH₵129,089 from the YEA on 17th March 2015 and GH₵900, 7545.68 on 12 May 2015 for travels to ILO meetings in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Minister had subsequently denied reports adding that part of the amount was used to offset Ghana's annual ILO and ARLAC subscriptions.

In a statement signed on January 12, 2016 by the Ministry of Employment, the Minister, Haruna Iddrisu said "For 2016, an amount of GH₵2millon has been budgeted for the Ministry.

"The Ministry of Employment Labour Relations (MELR) had requested the Ministry of Finance to reimburse the MELR for the Pre-financed activities."

The Ministry for Employment and Labour Relations (MELR) exercises oversight supervision over the Youth Employment Agency.

In all, for 2014 and 2015 the total receipts from the Agency to the Ministry stands at One Million and Twenty-Nine Thousand, Eight Hundred and Thirty-Five Ghana Cedis (GH₵1,029,835.00).

However, part of the expenditure was vired, contingent on the expectation of some payments and releases from the Ministry of Finance. This is in accordance with the Financial Administration Regulation (FAR) 2004 (LI 1802).
