Studio breaks record, crosses $2 billion in international box-office

Universal Pictures has beat Fox to break new box office record.

All thanks to , Universal Pictures has crossed $2 billion in international box-office revenue for the year, faster than any studio in history.

The studio on June 11, beat Fox which was the previous holder to achieve the milestone.

This makes it the second time that Universal has crossed $2 billion in foreign revenue in any given year.

“Our continued success this year has been driven by the studio’s ability to build new franchises such as Fifty Shades of Grey and to nurture our homegrown franchises, which include the Pitch Perfect and Fast & Furious series,” said Duncan Clark, president of distribution for United Pictures International.

“We have benefited from strategic dating choices, allowing our tentpole films breathing room to reach their full potential at the international box office. This was truly a team effort across the globe.”

Furious 7  which grossed over $1.16 billion internationally, is currently the studio's highest grossing movie. This is followed by undefined which grossed $403 million overseas and $569.7 million globally.
