Court discharges 26 suspects

The court discharged the 26 suspects upon the request of the prosecution, who explained that investigations were still on-going hence their inability to start trying them. The suspects were immediately rearrested after their release.

The twenty-six (26) were part of fifty-eight (58) people brought to court on Wednesday (June 21, 2017) to face charges of conspiracy to commit murder and murder.

The court presided over by Ebenezer Kwaku Ansah also remanded thirty-one others in prison custody.

One other suspect a seventeen-year-old boy Ebenezer Asamoah was ordered by the court to be sent to the borstal home for remand as he was presumed under age.

Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama was sent to Denkyira-Obuasi to head a platoon of about 30 soldiers three weeks ago, a duty that saw him pay an ultimate price with his life.

He was lynched by residents of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central region on Monday, May 29, and laid to rest this Friday, June 9, 2017.

He was posthumously promoted from Captain to Major by President Akufo-Addo on the recommendation of the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. O.B Akwa.
