Top 10 Ghanaian players abroad for the year 2017

We look through the performances of Ghanaian players playing their trade out of Ghana and rank them accordingly

Richmond Boakye Yiadom

It was September 5,2017 at the Kintele Stadium in Brazaville. Ghana had its hopes crashed after a very excruciating performance in Kumasi which saw Ghana drawing 1-1 to Congo on September 1, 2017. The reverse fixture in Brazzaville had Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew missing from the team.

Richmond Baokye-Yiadom stepped up to be the alpha and omega in the Congo game as he scored the first and last goal in a 5-1 trashing

Richmond Boakye Yiadom will always be grateful to the year 2017 where he got attention and improved his immaculate goal scoring.

The former Juventus player was quite remarkable when he managed to make that move from Latina to Red Star Belgrade in January.

After scoring 42 goals in the calendar year for both club and country in all competitions, Boakye is the goal scorer people saw him to be. This includes 7 goals at the Europa League Qualifications with one goal in the Europa League tournament.

Boakye-Yaiadom as well currently has 15 goals in 13 games in the ongoing 2017/2018 in the Serbian League. Thisperformance has attractedteams like Newcastle andChelsea ahead of the new transferwindow. The ability of Richmond Boakye-Yiadom to use the year 2017 to transcend levels of performance makes him the number one Ghanaian player abroad.

Thomas Partey

With reference to that Congo game there will be the need to acknowledge the very player who scored the hat-trick, Thomas Teye Partey.

The Atletico Madrid midfielder by all means has had a phenomenal year. This player has been efficient since he started the year with Ghana at the African Cup of Nations. Thomas Partey has also scored some cracking goals in the La Liga and Champions League for Atletico Madrid this season.

Partey has scored for 4 goals in 22 games for his side. Atletico Madrid did not qualify to the next round of the UEFA Champions League but his performances for his side shows the effort he has put into it.

It is by no surprise that Partey ended up in the La Liga team of the month for the month of November, 2017.

Patrick Twumasi

Patrick Twumasi is the third on the list. The forward has been having an interesting time in Kazakhstan since he made the move to Astana in 2015.

2017 has panned out to be more exciting for him as it happens to be the year he got himself called up into the Ghana Black Stars.

Patrick Twumasi helped Astana win the Kazakhstan Premier League for the third consecutive time as he scored 13 goals in 29 league appearances. The 13 leaguegoalsmadehim 3rd top goalscorer in theleague falling behind Ivorian Gerard Gohou and Congolose Junior Kabananga.

The 2017 Kazakhstan League is over and with his first national team appearances he gained in 2017 will be an icing on the cake for that.

However, in all competitions Patrick Twumasi had 22 goals with 42 appearances for the year 2017. That in itself is great for the 23 year old.

Harrison Afful

The Columbus Crew right back went throughout the season as an integral part of his side. Afful played 29 of the 34 games played by the side in the regular season.

The former Asante Kotoko full back played all the 5 games in the playoffs.

Albert Adomah

Albert Adomah has been phenomenal in the Championship since his days with Middlesbrough. Adomah helped Middlesbrough qualify to the English Premier League for the 2016/2017 season. After 2 games in the top flight he was shipped to newly relegated side at the time Aston Villa to continue his life down there.

However, Albert Adomah has turned lemons to lemonade as he kept performing from the year 2016 into 2017.

Albert Adomah last season played 38 league games where he scored 3 goals. In the new seasonAdomah has morphedinto a goalscoringdynamite. Adomah has 11 goals in 17 games so far that is indeed an incredible feat so far for the winger.

Adomah has 12 goals in 19 games in all competitions for this season.

Kevin-Prince Boateng

The midfielder may be out of the scene in terms of national team assignments but definitely not out of sight, Kevin Prince Boateng has had his career have a turnaround from the 2016/2017 season.

Kevin Prince Boateng has a good season with Las Palmas in the 2016/2017 season where he scored 10 league goals in 28 league appearances which got the fans excited.

It was quite sad that Kevin Prince Boateng had his contract cancelled after having a mutual agreement with the Spanish side due to personal reasons as announced by Kevin Prince Boateng.

Boateng then signed a contract with German club Eintracht Frankfurt for the 2017/2018 season. The Ghanaian midfielder gradually eased himself into the team and has played 15 games with 3 goals in the German Bundesliga

Godfred Donsah

The Bologna midfielder is gradually living up the potential he exhibited in the 2015 u-20 World Cup. Donsah has been bossing the Bologna midfield this very season especially and that has earned him a call up into the national side.

Donasah has played 14 goals and scoring 2 goals and handing out 2 assist for Bologna in the Italian Serie A this season.

Daniel Opare

This year has seen a rejuvenated Daniel Opare wthout a doubt from Daniel Opare. The right back transferred to Augsburg in 2015 following his fellow Ghanaian full back Baba Rahman exiting the club.

It is quite interesting to note by the turn of events that Baba Rahman got lost in the year 2017 whereas Opare has taken the German Bundesliga by storm in the latter part of the year.

The full back has manned the Augsburg right back position for 12 games which has as well seen deliver outstanding performances in the course of that period.

Kasim Nuhu

The defender at Young Boys has really made a case for himself this year after leaving Medeama for Leganes in 2013.

Nuhu has currently finds himself in the heart of the BSC Young Boys defense. In the 2016/2017 season, Nuhu helped his team to be runners up to Basel in the Swiss League.

This season has Nuhu has played 16 league games so far and that has helped his side lead the pack of the Swiss League with 37 points after 18 games.

Kasim Nuhu also had his debut with the Ghana Black Stars in 2017 where he scored against Suadi Arabia on 10th October,2017.

Raphael Dwamena

The Ghanaian striker Raphael Dwamena has been defined by the year 2017. Dwamena’s year started on a rather sad note after he was dropped from the 2017 African Cup of Nations squad.

He later went back to Austria to complete a January transfer to Switzerland. FC Zurich welcomed Dwamena wholeheartedly as he ended the Swiss League with 12 goals.

Dwamena’s performance in Switzerland got him a Black Stars call up where he scored a brace in his debut against Ethiopia.
