Eastern Province Kings' miserable start to the Currie Cup continued on Saturday as they were thumped 53-0 by Sharks in Durban, with Pat Lambie returning to action.

The Kings had lost all five of their opening fixtures and their latest reverse made it no wins in six, the Sharks running in nine tries to complete an absolute thrashing.

Andre Esterhuizen, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Jean-Luc du Preez and Inny Radebe all went over in the first-half, with Curwin Bosch adding two conversions to give the hosts a 24-0 lead.

There was no let up for the struggling Kings as the Sharks ran riot with Michael Claassens, Francois Kleinhans, Etienne Oosthuizen, Wandile Mjekevu and Khaya Majola all going over.

A great day for the Sharks had one final boost, too, as Pat Lambie featured for the first time since being concussed while playing for the Springboks against Ireland in June - the fly-half kicking two conversions to complete the win.

It is not only the Kings who have yet to register a win this season, Pumas are still waiting for theirs after they were beaten 31-23 by Western Province

Werner Kok grabbed the game's first try in the 21st minute after great work from Huw Jones, helping Province a 10-6 lead at the break.

After DJ Terblanche and Stefan Willemse were shown yellow cards within three minutes of one another, Province extended their advantage as the impressive Jones crossed, but JP Lewis kept the Pumas within six with a score of his own.

It was as close as Pumas got, though, as Leolin Zas and Jan de Klerk ensured a bonus point for the hosts.

Tyler Fisher and Renaldo Bothma cut Pumas' deficit late on but Province were not to be denied.
