Fitzpatrick, Forte lead steady Jets past Bills in NFL

The New York Jets outlasted the Buffalo Bills for a 37-31 victory in the NFL on Thursday.

While Buffalo scored on touchdown passes of 84 and 71 yards and got a 36-yard fumble return by its defense, the Jets dominated time of possession and wore down the Bills.

Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was 24 of 34 for 374 yards and a touchdown while Matt Forte ran for 100 yards on 30 carries and three touchdowns.

Bills QB Tyrod Taylor had three TD passes as part of his 297 yards.

The win saw the Jets improve to 1-1 this season, while the Bills are now 0-2.

MCCOY, BILLS COME UP SHORT

The Jets were not to pull away until after Sheldon Richardson stuffed LeSean McCoy on a fourth-and-one at the Jets' 45-yard line.

The Bills got the ball back and Forte scored his third touchdown five plays later.

PLENTY TO GO AROUND

Fitzpatrick completed passes to six different receivers as Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker each went over 100 yards. Quincy Enunwa caught six passes for 92 yards before leaving in the fourth quarter with a rib injury.

"We had a lot of guys step up," Fitzpatrick told CBS Sports. "It started with Quincy Enunwa. He got going early and opened it up for everyone else. We've got a lot of playmakers and it's my job to spread it around, get them all the ball and keep them happy."

MARSHALL HAS INJURY SCARE

Fitzpatrick admitted it "was very scary" to see Marshall leave early in the second quarter with a knee injury.

"It didn't look good," Fitzpatrick said. "He's as tough as they come, so seeing him on the ground wasn't a good thing."

Marshall came back on the next series and caught a 21-yard pass on his first play back.

"It was such a relief for me when he walked back in that huddle," Fitzpatrick said.

REVIS ISLAND NO MORE?

The Jets won, but Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis struggled for the second straight game. He was badly burned by Bills receiver Marquise Goodwin for an early 84-yard touchdown and had trouble sticking with any of the Bills receivers. Opposing offenses could be looking at Revis Island as a pretty attractive destination this season.

Things were not any better for Bills cornerbacks. Ronald Darby and Stephon Gilmore allowed 13 of the 19 passes thrown in their direction to be completed for 226 yards and a score. If the Bills cannot fix that, it could be a long season.
