Alexis Pinturault claimed victory in Friday's FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup alpine combined event in Kitzbuhel as French skiers filled the podium and overall leader Aksel Lund Svindal suffered a hamstring injury after crashing in the slalom.
A fourth-placed finish in the Adelboden slalom earlier this month was the best performance Pinturault had been able to muster so far this season, but it all came together under the lights in the famous Tyrol resort.
The 24-year-old was 1.22 seconds adrift after finishing 13th in a super-G event which was won by Svindal, but rose to the occasion later in the day to win by 0.89 seconds after clocking an overall time of 2 minutes and 3.7 seconds.
Victor Muffat-Jeandet clocked the quickest time of 50.68 seconds in the slalom - with Pinturault recording 50.69 - but had to settle for second place after only managing 1:13.91 to his compatriot's 1:13.01 in the super-G.

Third place for Thomas Mermillod Blondin made sure of an all-France podium for the first time in 46 years.
Svindal claimed his seventh World Cup victory of the season by winning the super-G to increase his lead in that discipline and the overall standings, but he was brought back down to earth in the slalom.
The Norwegian fell and will receive treatment to give himself every opportunity to compete in the downhill on Saturday.
"Pulled my hamstring when I crashed in the slalom tonight. Working with the fysio [sic] now to get it as good as possible for tomorrow." he tweeted.

Marcel Hirscher failed to take advantage of Svindal's crash, as the Austrian was disqualified in the second run and now trails by 107 in the battle for the overall title.
