The Ghanaian sprinter, bobsledder, and skeleton athlete has won 4 bronze, 4 silver, and 8 gold medals in various national and international sports events.

The athlete, who was born and raised in Kumasi, Ghana, moved to the Netherlands when he was eight.

In 2003, he became the Dutch National Junior Champion in the 200-meter sprints, which earned him the nickname ‘GoldenSprint'.

He later switched sports and nationalities in an attempt to qualify for the Pyeongchang Olympics in skeleton.

Frimpong arrived in Pyeongchang for the 2018 Winter Olympics, which starts on February 9.

He has decorated his room with his motivation by displaying the Ghana flag and pictures with his family on the wall of the new room he will be lodging for the three-week competition.

Akwasi Frimpong is Africa’s first male skeleton athlete.
