Mobile telecommunication company, MTN has charged customers to resist any increase in the prices of its recharge cards by vendors.
Reacting to news that Mobile Money Merchants Association were planning to increase prices of recharge cards by 10%, General Manager of Regional Sales of MTN, Abubakari Mohammed asked customers to resist any hikes in prices of recharge or mobile money charges by vendors.
Speaking to confirming a stance earlier expressed in writing , Abubakari Mohammed said,
"MTN has not increased prices of its recharge cards or Mobile Money Services, so customers should resist any price hikes. The prices of recharge cards are written on the cards. That is what the consumer must pay."

Also addressing claims by retailers that telcos have reduced the commission due vendors from the sale of recharge cards, Abubakari Mohammed advised retailers to switch to the sale of electronic vouchers in order to increase their profit margins.
Prices of phones and mobile money transactions are set to go up as the Mobile Money Merchants Association are getting ready to increase price of recharge cards by 10% starting today, Wednesday, February 3.

The Association blames the imminent increment on the reduction in the commission of vendors on each card sold.
According to president of the association, Kingsley Freelove Amoh, telcos have reduced commissions by up to five percent despite the difficult economic situation.
"It is unfortunate that the telcos will choose to decrease commissions to vendors at a time when cost of living has shot up drastically. So we will also have to protect our profits by " he said.
