Reports are rife that, the radio station mostly known for its controversial political debates was shut down by the NCA over unpaid license fees. Montie FM was off air at the time of this report according to Pulse Ghana's confirmation.

The station is reported to have gone off the air around 3 pm on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 after it reportedly failed to heed to caution by the regulator to pay up its debt.

Further reports indicate sister station Radio Gold is also hugely indebted to the NCA and has been ordered to pay or be shut down in a month’s time. Both stations are owned by Network Broadcasting Company.

When Pulse Ghana contacted the NCA, its Corporate Affairs department did not confirm or deny the reports. However it said a press release will be issued in the coming days in relation to the shut down.

Montie FM gained its popularity in the build up to the 2016 elections when some panelists who had appeared on a political show were jailed by the Supreme Court for threatening judges with death.
