A web-based platform to track the progress of government projects has been launched in Accra.

When citizens visit the website (http://www.transgovgh.org/), they will be able to browse a host of government's developmental projects, such as schools, hospitals and roads, their dates of commencement, the budget allocated, geo-location and other relevant information.

The platform is also another avenue for government to communicate with the people about the work it is doing.

Jerry Akanyi-King, chief executive of TransGov, said the platform “aims to strengthen citizen oversight of local government projects for participatory, transparent and accountable service delivery and feedback processes.”

The chairperson of the event, Dorothy Gordon, who is also the Director- General of the Kofi Annan ICT Centre, tasked the TransGov team to involve more citizens especially women in its make up in order to enjoy the numerous benefits of diversity.

A mobile app, SMS and an interactive voice response system (which is targeted at non-literates) will also be rolled out in stages. The Greater Accra is the first region to have its projects listed on the website.

The team behind TransGov won a competition called Tech4Governance in 2015 and are supported by Penplusbytes and Making All Voices Count.
