Some teacher trainees are expected to picket at the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service on Wednesday, December 28, in protest against the non-payment of their feeding grants.

In a press release, the aggrieved teacher trainees said “The leadership of teacher trainees has sent several petitions, letters to the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service. “Students have put red bands on their arms to lectures to express our utmost displeasure.

“Several press conferences have been organized. Our leadership has gone ahead even to sleep at the Ministry but ‘something good’ is yet to come out of these efforts.”

The group had earlier indicated that government released GHS11million as feeding grant, “which was woefully inadequate and far less than what the vice president announced and was even a bounced cheque to the colleges”.

The President of the Teacher Trainees Association, Jonathan Apam at an earlier press conference said the trainees are forced to pre-finance the grants.

He said the association was unhappy with "government’s lack of facts and inattentiveness taking due cognizance of the teacher trainees welfare."

They have therefore urged all others to join them on Wednesday in their numbers as they march to the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service to present their petition.
