Shagamu, a city located in Ogun State, in south-western Nigeria is the ancestral village of Joshua who is now the WBA and IBF champion after beating veteran Ukrainian Klitschko in a world heavyweight title fight epic in front of 90,000 people at Wembley.

Although born in Watford, the boxer has a Nigerian mother Yeta and a British father of Nigerian and Irish descent.

Joshua is very much associated with his Nigerian roots and still bears the middle name, 'Oluwafemi’.

He was called 'Femi' by his friends and former teachers, due to his middle name 'Oluwafemi'.

In Shagamu, the youth association organised a viewing party which was attended by hundreds of people.

According to Kwese Sports, Joshua’s uppercut which knocked out Klitschko in the 11th round was received with a very loud cheer from the crowd.

His huge win was greeted with a lot of celebration by the Shagamu indigenes who were cheering their son.

Joshua, 27 knocked out Klitschko three times, in the fifth round and twice more in the crucial 11th.
