Jillian Michaels Shares Holiday Weight Tips

Holiday weight gain happens, and its understandable. After all, there are yummy goodies everywhere, and its kinda hard to resist all that. Well, Jillian Michaels is here with some advice on how to fend off the extra lbs around the holidays, and it's surprisingly doable.

In a new Instagram video, Jillian promised that she has "tips for keeping the holiday weight OFF! Every year I get the same questions about keeping off the 5 or so pounds we tend to put on during the holidays. Not to worry. My ironclad simple advice will help you go into 2020 fitter than ever!"

In the nearly four-minute IGTV video, Jillian broke down her strategy. "Look guys, you should approach the holidays the same way you approach every day of your life," she said. You gain weight by "eating too much food" and eating more calories than youre burning, she said. So, she recommended offsetting the food youre eating by burning more calories. If you go to the gym and burn more calories, you can eat more food, she said.

At the same time, Jillian said its important to move more. Thats why she recommends going a little harder when youre at the gym, and adding five or 10 extra minutes to your workout, if you can. Naturally, Jillian has shared a few examples of what working harder in the gym might look like: crazy butt and core moves and exercise ball squats.

As for what youre eating, Jillian points out that you cant make everything a treat food and you should approach everyday food this way. She recommends following the 80/20 rule, where 80 percent of the stuff you eat is good, and 20 percent isnt as healthy. Its also totally fine to drink, she said, just dont go bananas on the alcohol.

Overall, the idea is that we dont overdo it, Jillian said. We have a couple of drinks, not 10. We work these foods into our daily calorie allowance. If youre going to eat more one day, have a little less the next.

Jillian has been pretty practical about this kind of stuff before. Earlier this month, she went on Instagram TV and said that, while intermittent fasting can have its perks, its not a good way to lose weight. "It isn't actually good for weight loss. That's just not true," she said. "The only thing that works for weight loss is calories in, calories out."

Jillian has also been clear about the fact that she doesnt think restrictive diets are a good idea when you want to lose weight . Jillian told the Daily Mail that people who want to lose weight should address other parts of their lives before going on a restrictive diet. "Individuals who struggle with weight already have to overcome the emotional and psychological components associated with being overweightadding an extremely restrictive diet that isnt sustainable to the mix is a recipe for disaster," she said.

And there you have it.
