Lifetime releases first trailer for singer's biopic

Lifetime has released the first official trailer for the Angela Bassett-directed film 'Whitney'. The trailer is coming after the controversial Lifetime's biopic on the late Aaliyah.

The 'Whitney' biopic stars Harlem native Yaya DaCosta as Whitney who passed away in February 2012. 'Whitney' revolves around the life of the late iconic singer, Whitney Houston, her ups and downs, and her marriage to Bobby Brown.

'Whitney' will premiere on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 8 p.m. EST on Lifetime.
