STMA Bans Churches From Worshipping In Schools

According to the Ghana Education Service, the use of classrooms by churches has led to the destruction of school properties and the disruption of academic work.

The Sekondi Metropolitan Assembly has banned the holding of church services and other related religious activities in classrooms in the area.

In statement signed by the Metropolitan Education Director, Franklin Dzigbede, he warned the heads of schools in the metropolis against giving out their premises for church activities.

Reports are that some churches were prevented from worshiping at their usual school compounds last Sunday as a sign of enforcing the imposed ban.

Reverend Charles Mensah, chairman of the Association of churches worshipping in classrooms said they will plead with the authorities to reconsider their decision.

“This is coming from the authorities so we are just pleading. But if our pleading doesn’t work, then we have no option than to go out “.

The Reverend also added that he believed churches will contribute generously to the development of their host schools.
