NPP Ashanti regional chairman heads to court on Wednesday

Hundreds of supporters of the NPP in the Ashanti region have stormed the premises of the Central Police station in Kumasi to demand the immediate release of their regional chairman.
 
 

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, will on Wednesday be arraigned before court for allegedly attacking the NPP MP for Manhyia North Collins Owusu Amankwa and the constituency Secretary of the area, Felix Ibrahim.

In an interview with Accra-based Citi FM, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP, Sam Pyne, said he is optimistic that Chairman Wontumi will sail through the situation.

"So far the Police say he has been charged with assault of a public officer and that they are going to take him to court tomorrow [Wednesday]," Sam Pyne added.

Meanwhile, hundreds of supporters of the NPP in the Ashanti region have stormed the premises of the Central Police station in Kumasi to demand the immediate release of their regional chairman.

Chairman Wontumi is currently being detained at the Kumasi Central Police station.
