It was all tears of joy for 12-year-old girl Shifa Amankwah-Gabbey, a first-time contestant from Kumasi in the Ashanti Region who emerged winner of the 2018
It was an emotional moment as she emerged as the 11th winner for the National Spelling Bee 2018.
The Junior High School student from Nagie’s Angels Educational Centre in Kumasi beat over 150 other spellers from various schools across the country to take home the ultimate prize.

Raj Thakwani, 11 and Akshaya Lakshika Janikiraman, 12, of Delhi Public School International in Tema also emerged first and second runner-ups respectively.
