Supreme Court throws out Ward-Brew

According to the justices of the court, the suit was dismissed because it lacked merit in both form and substance.

The suit filed by flagbearer of the Democratic Peoples Party Thomas Nuako Ward-Brew praying the apex court to order the Electoral Commission (EC) to postpone the December 7, 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections has been dismissed by the Supreme Court.

Mr Ward-Brew, one of the thirteen aspirants disqualified by the EC from contesting the presidential election filed a suit the Supreme Court seeking to suspend the polls.

According to him, he was out of the jurisdiction when the Supreme Court, on November 7, 2017 extended the nomination period for disqualified aspirants, leading to the acceptance of four more presidential aspirants by the Electoral Commission (EC).

He is accordingly praying the Supreme Court to extend the period of time for the submission of nomination forms.
